Grid-tied systems

A grid-tied system connects your solar array to the grid through an inverter, powering your property while the sun shines and drawing from the utility when it does not. Because there is no battery, capital cost per generated kWh is the lowest of any configuration.

The honest trade-off: for safety, grid-tied inverters must disconnect during an outage, so they provide savings, not backup. They suit homes and businesses with meaningful daytime consumption and a tolerance for load-shedding, and they must be registered under your municipality's small-scale embedded generation (SSEG) rules, which we manage end to end.

Hybrid systems

Hybrid systems add battery storage and an inverter capable of running your essential circuits when the grid fails. Solar charges the battery through the day; the battery carries the evening peak and outages. Most Solaris residential clients land here, because it addresses both the bill and the blackouts.

Off-grid systems

Where the grid is unavailable or a connection upgrade is prohibitively expensive, a fully off-grid system carries the entire load: oversized array, substantial battery bank and usually a generator for extended weather. Rooftop and ground-mounted arrays

Panel placement is structural engineering, not decoration. We assess roof condition, orientation, pitch and wind loading, and specify mounting systems appropriate to the roof type. Where roofs are unsuitable or land is available, ground-mounted arrays with optimised tilt often out-produce compromised roof layouts.

How sizing and production work

System size follows your consumption and the yield of your location. A well-oriented South African array typically produces 1,600 to 1,900 kWh per kWp per year, with inland regions at the top of that range. We model monthly production against your load profile so you see realistic winter figures, not annual averages hiding the dips.

Self-consumption drives the economics: energy you use as it is generated is worth your full tariff, while exported energy usually earns less. Our designs size arrays to your actual usage pattern first.

Monitoring and compliance

Every Solaris PV installation is commissioned with monitoring configured, a Certificate of Compliance issued, and SSEG registration completed where applicable. You receive a handover file your insurer, municipality and future property buyer will thank you for.
