How sizing works
Your bills do the talking.
We derive your annual consumption from municipal bills, map when your household uses power, and define which circuits must survive an outage. From that, the array is sized to your usage, the inverter to your loads, and the battery to your evenings, with the working shown in the proposal.
Backup versus savings is the key conversation: backup sizes the battery, savings sizes the array. Most homes need a measured amount of both, and nobody needs the biggest system on the street.

Straight answers to the questions we hear most. For anything specific to your property, an assessment gives you numbers rather than generalities.
How big should my home solar system be?
Size follows usage, not guesswork. We review your municipal bills, how your household uses power through the day, your roof orientation and your goals (savings, backup or both), then model the system before recommending it. Most homes land between 3 kWp and 12 kWp, but the honest answer comes from your own load profile.
Do I need a battery, or are panels enough?
Panels alone (grid-tied) give the lowest cost per kWh but stop working during an outage. A battery adds backup and lets you use solar energy after sunset. If outages hurt you, or most of your consumption is in the evening, a hybrid system with storage usually makes sense. If your usage is mainly daytime, grid-tied may be the better investment.
What happens during load-shedding?
With a hybrid or backup system, the inverter disconnects from the grid in milliseconds and carries your essential circuits from the battery, recharging from solar when the sun is up. We define your essential-loads circuit during design so lights, internet, refrigeration and security stay on.
Is my roof suitable for solar?
Most tile, metal and IBR roofs are suitable. We assess orientation, pitch, shading and structural condition during the site visit. North-facing is ideal in South Africa, but east and west arrays are often engineered deliberately to match morning and evening consumption.
Will the system be compliant and insurable?
Yes. Every Solaris installation is completed to SANS standards, issued with a Certificate of Compliance, and registered with your municipality or Eskom under SSEG rules where required. You receive the documentation your insurer and future property buyer will ask for.
How long does an installation take?
A typical residential installation takes one to three days on site once equipment is ready, preceded by assessment, design and approvals. We schedule work to minimise disruption and commission the system with you present, so you understand exactly how it operates.
